The Wildwood sock is back in new colors this week as our friend Abby prepares to run the trail in it's entirety. We helped her coordinate her kit this year by matching some of the trail sections on this wool sock - to her trail running shoes. Kind of what we might call "thinking ahead." The Wildwood was one of our favorite, and most popular sock designs this past year. So, if you have them, post them on your instagram and tag us (@theAthletic) or Abby (@AbbyLWatson) and be sure to include any exciting messages to keep her going.
This is her third (or is it fourth) year running the entire 33 miles of trail. Why would she want to do something like this year after year? Beats me, but it sure seems tough. Plus, her training seems to be going as planned despite the torrential rains that have been prevalent in the Pacific Northwest as of late.
We really didn't make too many changes to the sock — we like it that much — but we did take some visual and color cues from Abby. Her requirements this time around were this:
A. That there be more green, since that is all you see in the woods this time of year.
B. That there were some nail colors out there that matched up nicely. Like Ruffles & Feathers.
C. Keep the blue trail marker triangles.
D. Match the Nike Terra Kiger 2 trail running shoe that she will be using.
And with that, we arrived at the Wildwood V2.
So, if you have V1, we want to see them this week and stay tuned as we periodically check back in with Abby as she gets ready to run (and slip and slide) through another year of the Wildwood Trail run.
