There have been so many new socks these days that we thought it pertinent to take a moment and reflect on the ones (recently) that have caught our attention. Now, at first glance it may seem like these here are all sporting socks. That indeed may be true, excepting for the Galacticat one at the end, we've definitely got the the cycling sock on lock. However, it should be noted that whenever you can find the Wooly Boolie sock, or a wool Swiftwick just go for it, you will not be disappointed. Besides, everyone wears socks. Except those that don't, but they're another story.
A. Cool Cool Cool by Wooly Mammoth - unavailable.
Not a clue in the world what these are about. Make sure you keep an eye out for their new kit designs as well. Word on the street is that they invented the #COOL hashtag. Are you willing to look back through the 20 million photos to find out if they are right? When we sat down to design it this time around the key words we were using were things like - Future - Space - and, well, mostly Future. We played some Man o War, we drank some coconut milk (straight from the can) and this is what came out the other end. They are wool, which is also nice.
B. Amy Dombroski Socks - $15
It is hard to follow up a such a serious cycling team as WM with something as serious as this. I did not know Amy any deeper than a nod at the races, but I got the impression that she would have had a laugh about most things. Julie spent some time next to her on the start line of the World Cup races the past couple of years — their UCI rankings seeding them next to each other for nearly every race — and she says that it was Amy's sense of humor about everything that ultimately kept her calm and sensible on the start line. It is a good bet that these socks will do the same to you and will serve as a reminder that this life is so fragile. Plus, they have the added bonus of looking great as well. Orange is definitely the color of the season and the blue combo make them pop.
C. ENVE Merino Socks - $24
If you haven't been checking out the video series that ENVE have been producing you need to do that right now » Video Series. They have been highlighting some of the builders that they work with. The Vanilla one is great because it has... Jenn Levo! and a Mudfoot t-shirt in it. So, when these socks showed up in my Ibis fork box, I was totally stoked. They are made by Swiftwick, who make some damn fine socks.
These ones are black which would match your ENVE fork or wheels or seatpost or anything else that they make in their fancy carbon factory over there in Utah. Get some of these for racing in the cold cold winter. Or skiing. Their 7" cuff is a pretty great height for winter sports.
D. Tenspeed Hero - CMY-Grey - Combo Pack - $32
Genius, for one. Two, they look great together and lastly, who wants to have matching socks these days anyway? Mix it up people. These are some of my favorite socks right now. Mostly because they say "oh shit" on the bottom of the sock. Because, why not? We're in charge here. We are the adults in this situation. And we can wear whatever we damn well please. That's right? I can say that?
My adoration for everything Tenspeed Hero never ends. These guys and gals are killing it and not losing an ounce of what they started with. The best part is that they're all about the art. Which also keeps everything really, really good looking.
D. Stance Socks - Galacticat
I couldn't find an actual link to the Galacticat socks...but WTF Stance has a lot of socks on their site. Shit. Even Dwayne Wade has his own line of socks. Which looks questionable at best. Didn't he go to Marquette? Come on man, you can do better than that. I want smart socks from a Marquette Man! Either way. Lots of socks. I got these at the Poler Flagship Store in downtown Portland. They had me at lazer beamed eyes.
There you have it. A few ways to wick the sweat off those creepy little toes of yours. These are some of our recent favorites, you could even say #sockspiration, but if you have other socks that we need to check out, post them in the comments below. We do love socks. Speaking of which, there might be a little something else in the works by the end of the week....keep an eye on the store.
