"He's heating up!"
When the smoke cleared last Friday night we crowned a champion. Same as the old champion. Team Uncle Spliffy (seems about right) proved to be too much for any of the competitors and, at least as far as this competition is concerned, they are undefeated.
Sure, there were a few hoot and hollers as the games went on. We switched up the format a little bit and added a few teams to ensure people who wanted to jam out got their chance. Two full court shots caused a near uproar in the audience. The fans went wild. But, the night was just getting started.
Seth Johnston, resplendent in his brand new Trillblazin t-shirt handled the Master of Ceremonies duties. He did a fantastic job of keeping everyone on task, the teams lined up and the comedians waiting in the wings. Plus, he had a few choice words for the crows in his neighborhood. He and Ananth Pandian got a sweet write up in the local paper as well - Oregon Live. It should also be noted that the author of that article actually made it to the finals of the NBA Jam tournament and took home the sportsmanship prize. A medium sized glass bong.
So, if we learned anything from the last time around, it's that mic time should be given a priority during the games. Meaning, crank that shit, the games go super quick. The banter coming from the people on the mics was worth the price of admission because after Jake and Marcus really got a grasp of what the teams were up to, it was no holds bar shit talking and accountant jokes.
Shout out to Comedians Jake Silberman, Kate Murphy, and Marcus Coleman for bringing the laughs. It was an odd venue on an even weirder night and these three made it awesome. Their jokes were funny and off-color and at times they made fun of Steph Curry, to which there were no objections.
And a very special thank you to Chalice Farms for helping bring the party to life.
