There could not be a better face to adequately describe finishing the race this past weekend. David Wilcox (aka The Wilcox) and I headed over to Tacoma (aka Taco-ma!) to race the MFG's latest creation in the way of the Waves for Water Cyclocross Collaboration. Hot damn, that was a fun course on a crazy venue with a lot of great people around!
David ponied up and did the UCI race. A man of his ilk? I would expect nothing less. While I, being a man of less ilk, created my own little bubble of havoc within the Single Speed race. The course itself was something to behold, weaving its way through broken down cars, tractors motorcycles, washing machines and a completely intact deer skull. The groundskeepers may have been less that thrilled with the way that the bikes were tearing into their beautiful earth (and beautiful it was) but the sheer enthusiasm by participants could have made them change their minds.
Plus, with the amount of shit that we give the Seattle based Hodala crew I sort of half expected that they would be giving it back to any of us that had made the trek from Portland. Well, aside from an ass slap or two, I was wrong. In fact they were quick to offer beer (and more ass slaps) after the racing was over — and I could have been wrong — but I swear I saw both and OBRA official and a Cross Crusade promoter partying it up within their ranks. Maybe there is something going on here that I don't understand. In fact that is probably the case.
To say a good time was had by all is a bit of an understatement. With the mist settling in over the creepy grounds a few of us stood beside the course and lamented about how we wished it could happen this way every weekend, but that wasn't new either.
