Brought to you by no one in particular for no real reason. We were talking about all the fun, interesting and downright strange things that happened this past weekend and up sprung Les Page Sport. If you're going for the French pronunciation it would be "Lay P-ah-je Spore." It's the best we can do. Here's what we've got - a little pro race action, a local leg breaker and all that's fit to print in audio news.
Sagan's Weird Weekend.
Seriously. This hairy sprint demon was the talk of the town this weekend. With a second place finish at Omloop (which we are still calling Het Volk around here) and a win at KBK (which we are still calling KBK).
A second place, which if you're asking us, is pretty damn good. And, who really knows what's going on here with Mr. Sagan, but it seems like he gotten to that spot where he's getting sick of the same reporters asking the same questions every time. Or maybe, as a Cyclocosm intimated — to a hilarious end — stoned out of his mind. Either way, Hesher Sagan as he's starting to be known around these parts, is in a weird way, starting to win us over. Never thought we would write that.
The defining moment come for us here, when Sagan asks "Why didn't you attack?" and Sep Vanmarcke replies "We said we were going to wait for the sprint." Riiiiight. Forgot about that one.
Now if only we could get our office chairs to work that well.
Then, he turned around and did it again the next day. Sure, he didn't cause any craziness by riding up on a curb or anything, but he did scarf down an unusual amount of stoner snacks at the end of his race. Not going to lie, it's what everyone wants when they finish a ride like that. The link this time goes to Gage + DePhoto and it makes us laugh every time. "Bro, who's got the Haribo??"
King Kong Classic
Our weekly - let's-brave-this-weather-because-at-some-point-we-need-to-start-riding-again - ride. There are more than enough hitters that are fine with putting on extra layers to cruise around in the West Hills. Ira Ryan built this route and concept a couple years back, but this is the first year that we've attempted to do 6 in a row. We are officially 4 in, which means we have 2 to go.
Food for thought: DWP showed up for the ride. We found it ironic that as the creator of the Rapha Continental both he and it's star - Ira Ryan himself - were wearing Castelli Tempesta Jackets - which incidentally are listed under "tops" on their website. They also looked extremely nice.
Adidas at the All Star Game
If you didn't see this image of James Harden at the All Star Game, then, where they heck have you been? We did a collection of basketball gear last year with our fellow hoops pal Will Bryant and he brought his super wiggles to a party that Adidas was throwing. Nathan McKee was there too! As well as a host of other cool artist types making it happen.
If you think all that black and white squiggle-ness looks cool, then check out our Will Bryant collection.
We Got To Hang Out
Julie participated in Annalisa Fish & Abby Watson's podcast We Got To Hang Out last week. This is their fourth interview already, which means that they have been cranking them out! Julie Krasniak talks about the origin story of the Athletic, her own history bike racing with teenage boys in France and Belgium as well as a host of other fun topics. Podcasts are all the rage these days (we're working on one too!) and this one is a lot of fun.
Beware: Contains many giggles.
Check it out here We Got To Hang Out & on iTunes.
That's what we've got for your weekend in Sport. Keep an eye out here for some totally down to the minute hot news reports each week. Hmmm. We're still working out the ending here, so stay tuned...
