The above photo almost perfectly encapsulates the tone that blanketed the store last Saturday morning for our International Women's Day run with the Women of the Bowerman Track Club. A high school runner (whom we've heard is called Josie) being absolutely thrilled to run with none other than Olympian Colleen Quigley. What more could you ask for on a day like that?
Well, as it turns out, a lot more. The sun was shining. The coffee was hot, and Colleen wasn't the only Olympian in the house. She was joined by her fellow Olympians Marielle Hall, Courtney Frerichs and Gwen Jorgensen (Gold Medalist in the 2016 Olympic Triathalon). You can go look them all up, and you should, we'll wait.
The crowd grew as we approached our 9:00 am wheels up run time. This is our weekly run at The Athletic, so it was cool to see the usual gang mixed in and rubbing elbows with everyone that had come out on the day. The run actually grew so large that we were unable to take our customary photo in front of the shop pre-run, pre-fun!
After a short jaunt up and through the woods everyone congregated back at the shop to sip on their second, or third coffee's and gobble down a few tasty bagels from our favorite local spot - Pop Bagel.
The best quote of the day came from one young lady who was hanging around being excited post race... "can we do this every weekend?"
