City + County Bicycles Pop Up

City + County Bicycles Pop Up

Situated right next to one of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco — Burma Superstar — happens to be one of our favorite bike shops. City + County Bicycle opened their doors a little over a year ago. Jon Stynes the owner runs the everyday life of the space with his mechanic.

After the success of the pop-up event in Golden Saddle Cyclery in LA, we realized that we should keep going this with this little experience with our friends in San Francisco. However, this time we were a little bit more organized and kicked it off with a super fun ride on some amazing roads and with some cool people in the area: Marc Marino, our newest columnist for The Athletic Journal (check out his first column), Garrett Chow, Chas, and Aaron Hulme. Plus, along the way we made some new friends in an energetic crew of ladies. That's what this is all about!

There are a few things you should know about City + County Bicycles. The location is just incredible, it’s part neighborhood bike shop but with a really precise and neat selection of what you need in your everyday cycling life. However, it’s also a perfect place to crash for the out of town crew like us who want head north to Marin County across the Golden Gate Bridge for a spin. It took us exactly 12 min and 45 seconds to be on the quiet roads across the bridge without even crossing any SF big street traffic or tourist crowed path. From there, you can go for a 20 to 120 miles with the most magic views of the bay. Seriously.

Then after a pleasing bike ride, we needed to head back to open the shop. Which we know a lot about since it’s also the hour of opening at our Portland store. But then we decided to visit the neighborhood on our bikes with a little cruise around Golden Gate Park, riding by the Japanese garden, where next time I swear I will have a lock to go check it out. Then we headed along ocean beach to look at the waves and decided that since Trouble Coffee is the best place in town we should also make a pit stop there.

Yes, it felt good to have a warm beverage and a… wait for it… buttery cinnamon sugar toast!!! Yes, I know, cyclists get excited for a snacks attack, I have no shame that I do. A lot, a lot.

We finally headed back to share a casual lunch at the shop with Jon and have Burma Superstar's delicious food delivered — small business solidarity on Clement street! Loving it. Jon is the nicest person on earth and it’s not everyday that you get all the advice you need for your bike shopping by the owner himself. The displays are clean and sleek, and you can feel Jon sensibility for design. Add to that the nicest mechanic and you're winning at the small business game. We are thrilled to be part of City+County adventure and are so proud to call it a friend.

Make sure to get in there today! (Pop up event is ending tomorrow!)
